Overview
This facial reshaping technique reduces the appearance of a wide, overly square jawline by weakening the masseter muscle, which is used for chewing. In many patients, an enlarged masseter muscle may be attributed to personal habits like excessive gum chewing, teeth-grinding at night, and chewing hard items like ice or tougher meats.

BOTOX® jaw reduction gives a softer, more aesthetically pleasing angle to the jaw, especially for women seeking a more feminized facial shape. When BOTOX® is injected into the masseter muscle, the solution partially relaxes it. Eventually, the underused muscle loses mass and decreases in size, effectively slimming the face.

What to Expect
The procedure takes about 5 minutes. Due to the minute size of the BOTOX® needle, minimal to no discomfort is felt during the injection. While mild bruising or redness at the treatment site can possibly occur, many patients do not experience this and you may resume regular activities immediately after the procedure. Although rare, few people may experience some tiring after chewing for a while. This condition is only temporary and will subside over time.

Effectiveness and Results
At the end of the first week, patients typically notice softening of the masseter muscle. In about 6 weeks, there will be a noticeable softening of the jawline. These results can last 6–18 months.
